The Mashup Issue #7: More Modest Than Ever

Image
Good evening, Ticketholders and other members of my readership club! I am great! I am fucking awesome! I am the best fucking mashup artist in the history of the universe! Not even close. That was just me being ironically modest to get you ready for the latest offering in my Fort Modest mashup series. Like the first entry, this is a double-feature. Track 4: Bury Me With It the Hard Way * Modest Mouse - Dig Your Grave * Modest Mouse - Bury Me With It * Fort Minor - The Hard Way Track 5: Petrified In the Dance Hall * Modest Mouse - Dance Hall * Fort Minor - Petrified Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_boMjnJq5A Stay tuned for more mashups and 'machining mayhem as another Elemental Witch comes your way in the next Witches Are Made . Need to be up to catch a bus in two hours so goodnight. Ticketsomniac, Out cold.

Witches Are Made #20: Femme Fatale

Image
Tonight, I hit you with a little twist of fate by sharing with you my Elemental Witch of Fate. Last year, when I was designing the Clockwork characters, I took inspiration from a public domain Golden Age heroine called Lady Luck, and created an Old West gunfighter of the same name. Since the inception of my version of Lady Luck and the time-traveling Tempora, I have shown you Elemental Witches of Space (Alice Gladwell), Fire (Theodora Kindle), Water (Linda Norgood), and Metal (Farrah O'Ren). I intend to re-brand Lady Luck as the Elemental Witch of Luck, but in life we cannot have Luck without Fate. Name: Death Rose Alias: Destinee la Mort Team Affiliations: Coven du Sort, le Milieu, The Hit Squad Enemies: Lady Luck (I), Fifth Hour, Sextant, Coven of Adh Race: Human Birthplace: Derry, Ireland Powers/Abilities: Manipulation of probability and chance, Expert marksmanship, can predict (and sometimes cause or prevent) any person’s impending death, including her own. Bio: The Coven of

The Mashup Issue #6: Make It Wayne On Them Ho's

Hope you're liking the remixes so far. I've got nothing clever to say right now, so just check this out because it's badass. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh9BPz4Dv90 Ever wonder what Lil Wayne sounds like over "Back In Black?" Didn't know Jonathan Davis from Korn and Jim Root from Slipknot covered "Got Money?" Ever get the idea to blend Rihanna and Jay-Z into "Got Money?" Well, this remix has all that and a bag of bitchin'. So get clickin' y'all. I just finished another Elemental Witch character for my [Fill In the Blank] Are Made  column, so stay tuned for that coming up soon, as well as another Fort Modest Mashup Issue . As always, you can find the Skratch 'n' Sniff radio show on  iHeartRadio  Saturday nights from 11pm-1am. DJ Timedrop, the only nerd that remixes your interwebs, Timedropping out.

Witches Are Made #19: No Place Like Home

Image
That's where I spent my day off today, just clicking my fingers, keys, and mouse buttons together and trying to make magic happen, and I was successful. I have completed two characters in the past three days (only one of which I will share with you here because the first character I finished would be a spoiler if I showed you now). I chose to name this post "No Place Like Home" because my latest character is an Elemental Witch based on Glinda of the North from The Wizard Of Oz . She has not yet been included in any contests (although my other character was entered into an Insect/Archnid/Crustacean-Inspired Characters Contest and failed to place in the polls despite the prevalence of less impressive designs), but I plan on using her in something soon, should the right contest open up. Here's Linda Norgood, alias Hidrea, the Elemental Witch of Water: Name: Hidrea Alias: Linda Norgood Team Affiliations: Coven of Tonnta, Atlantis (Irish/Atlantean dual citizenship)

The Mashup Issue #5: Two Modest

DJ Timedrop here again to let you know that I put another Fort Modest mashup on YouTube just now. It's the second Fort Modest "video" I've posted so far, and I like where the album-in-progress is going. Check out "Ocean Breathes Salty Where You Go (feat. Holly Brook & Jonah Matranga)" by clicking the video or the link below. This remix uses the following songs: Fort Minor - "Where'd You Go? (feat. Holly Brook & Jonah Matranga)" Modest Mouse - "Ocean Breathes Salty" http://youtu.be/zsD8tKv5vjs As always, I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy putting it out for you. Stay tuned as my Fort Modest series continues and prepare yourselves for the next Elemental Witch character from my Heromachine side project. I hope to have her ready for you in a few days' time. Until then, Tune in, Turn on, and Timedrop, out.

The Mashup Issue #4: First & Fort Modest

Cue the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Ticketholders, Soundtrackers, Heromachiners, and Mashuppers! I gladly welcome you to another Mashup Issue , where time gets dropped and the beats don't stop, and all those people that you know are about to "Float On" so they can make it all "Feel Like Home." If you haven't guessed yet, the Ticketmaster, a.k.a. The Blogger Formerly Known As SW@, a.k.a. DJ Timedrop, a.k.a. me, myself, and I, have been working on a whole album of mashups featuring the works of Modest Mouse and Fort Minor (that's Mike Shinoda, Styles of Beyond, John Legend, and a few other dope folks in the music biz). Like I've done for all of my mashups so far, I PhotoShopped together my own cover art for what is to this point a four-part "video" series, starting with this Fort Modest triple feature: 1) "Horn Intro" by The Dirty Dozen Brass Band 2) "The World At Large Feels Like Home" ----"The World At Large"

Villains Are Made #18: A Man So Heartless

Image
It's been over two weeks since I posted anything on here or on HeroMachine (which has been having slowdown issues with their forum software, so posting on HM is impossible now anyway). But lack of inspiration and a temporarily deactivated forum have been the least of my problems lately. I was hospitalized for chest pain last week, which turned out to be something called myocarditis (inflammation of heart tissue brought on by some kind of virus). If I had let it go (read: if I had been physically and mentally capable of ignoring the most annoyingly, distractingly, infuriatingly painful pain I've ever experienced at one o'clock in the morning), it could have progressed into heart failure and killed me. But two dozen vital checks, a helicopter ride, a heart catheter, an MRI, a mind-numbing amount of bed rest, and four medications later, I am getting better. Speaking of heart problems, you may recall that my last two Villains Are Made  posts focused on Greta Holz, a woman-

Villains Are Made #17: The Howling

Image
Good morning, gang! (And team! And Ticketholders and HeroMachiners of all ages!) Before I get into today's character bio, I'd like to express how disappointed I am in Russell Peters, Roseanne, and Keenan Ivory Wayans. This week on Last Comic Standing , awkward, unconventional (and in all ways superior) funnyman Joe Machi was sent home after his funniest set in the competition to date. While he may not have any set structure to his material, it has consistently gotten the biggest laughs of any in the competition. I place his humor on a level with that of George Carlin and Robin Williams (that is, given a two hour comedy special, he could potentially make me laugh so hard that I would be on the floor, choking on my laughter through an aching face after the first hour). And yet the three judges mentioned above decided he had gotten too comfortable and gimmicky for his own good, denying him a spot in the final three. Following this post, I will promptly begin fixing them a humong

The Mashup Issue #3: H to the Izzyou, G to the Izzo, and the Machine

Yo, yo, yo. Tickets to Stubs, and I ain't done. I got Mashup  issues, and the mix ain't one. Hit me. If my confusing post title and my pathetic attempt at acting gangsta are any indication, the latest mashup I'm going to share with you features "99 Problems" by Jay-Z. But as I learned during the end credits of Fright Night  (the Colin Farrell remake), Young HOVA isn't the only one with "99 Problems." A band called HUGO did a cover of Jay's hit song, and I liked it so much that I began thinking of ways to combine the two. The HUGO version didn't accommodate Jay's rap very well, so I looked at other "99 Problems" remixes on YouTube, and I got the idea to incorporate Florence + the Machine's "The Dog Days Are Over" as the glue for the track. This is what came out of it: And here's the link for it, too:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thv8tvi_bZ4 Thanks for reading, and watching, and listening. Stay tun

Cover Charge #4: More Grimm News

When last I left off, I had just finished reading Unleashed #0: The Game . Things have heated up quite a bit since then, so let's kick off the series lineup from there. Unleashed : This story arc was a decent follow-up to the events of Godstorm.  A new villain (the same one who ripped off Venus' arms) unleashes an army of monsters, vampires, werewolves, zombies, and demons upon the world as a way to ultimately cleanse it so he can start fresh. But there's a lot more going on than what this Being is up to. We get to see what the big deal is with the Keepers. The Maker  is the chief creative force in the Universe, and the father of Unleashed 's all-powerful big-bad, The Being. Hate  ironically turns out to be the recently murdered Roman goddess of love, Venus. Love  turns out to be Alice Liddle, fresh from her death at the end of Down the Rabbit Hole , which I will get to later. Corruption , who we last saw trailing Sela Mathers on her journey through Myst to fi

Villains Are Made #16: A Woman So Heartless

I just updated my last Mashup Issue  because of technical difficulties viewing the video on a smartphone. To rectify this problem with the post, and all future Mashup Issue s, I included a direct link to the video on YouTube as well. You can read (and check out the video for the first time if you're a smartphone-using idjit like me) this updated entry of  The Mashup Issue #2  by clicking here . Now, on to the business at hand. I have another fresh entry into the Timedrop Comics Fake Universe for you. You probably remember (or maybe you don't, but that's okay) that a war is raging between covens of elemental "Witches" (humans who have inherited certain Knavium-based alloys that somehow occur naturally in their bodies, and are therefore gifted with a command over specific cosmic elements like time, fire, electricity, or fate). You may also remember that no coven or Witch is strictly good or evil, except as they are viewed by one another, so there is still plenty o

Bring Back the Soundtrack #4: Riff Raff In the Atmosphere

Image
As promised, I'm following up Mashup Issue #2  with a new Soundtrack . If you read (and hopefully viewed) Mashup Issue #2 , you'll recall the two rappers up for review today are Riff Raff and Atmosphere. I first heard Riff Raff's single, "Kokayne" (off of his new album, Neon Icon ) where I hear most new music that grabs my attention these days: on Skratch 'n' Sniff. Living in the middle of nowhere (home to two classic rock stations, four country stations--at least--and one teeny-bopper pop station that barely comes in at all), iHeartRadio and Skratch 'n' Sniff have been a blessing to me. Titled "Video Games" for radio play purposes, the white rapper's white powder anthem sports a sped-up baseline that sounds like it came straight out of Fugazzi's "Waiting Room," what might be bagpipes or a squeezebox put to non-annoying use, slightly creative rapid-fire name-dropping (Chris Rock, Carson Daly, Dolly Parton, Usain Bol

The Mashup Issue #2: The Next Episode (of CSI)

I decided to get back into the review scene, rather than give you another character "right away" (sarcastic quotes because it's been a month since I posted anything here). Welcome to The Mashup Issue , Ticketholders! You may have noticed that I started the numbering with two instead of one, and that is because there is already an issue of Bring Back the Soundtrack   with that title. In addition to reviewing movies (which I haven't done in months), books, and music, and designing cool comic book character concepts, and working at Safeway, and writing a book of my own (65 pages and counting), I also find time to create the occasional mashup, along with Photoshopped "album art," under the name DJ Timedrop. In an effort to get as many hits on my work as possible, I will use this title to share my (now small) archive of remixes and mashups with you, starting with this one: It is by no means my first piece, but I consider it my best work so far, and it is

Witches Are Made #15: Iron and Steam

Image
Greetings, Ticketholders and Heromachiners, and welcome to another wiccan exhibition! Today's character is something I had hoped to include in this year's Steampunk contest, but I pissed around too much with concepts and details before I came up with a design I liked, and I was unable to complete this character in time. I've still gotten some good feedback on her, especially regarding the design of her dress and the incorporation of metal into her clothing. Last year, I created several characters as part of a Public Domain Literature contest at Heromachine, called the "Gale Force" series, revolving around Dorothy's return to a relatively futuristic Oz, where aliens, extradimensional beings, and advanced technology rule. Theodora Kindle (my Elemental Fire Witch of a few issues back) was the first step in incorporating characters from my failed "Gale Force" storyline into the Timedrop Comics/Clockwork Universe. Most, if not all, of my Elemental Witche

Heroines Are Made #14: Well-Armed

Image
It's been over a month since I posted anything on here. That's my one and only New Year's resolution down the tubes. The reason is that I have been working on my novel again, and, of course, reading the GFT comics. Inspiration finally struck me and I began trying to re-work this character into something I was happy with. I created her before joining the Heromachine forums last year, and I submitted her for a Gods contest several weeks after I joined. Unfortunately, she was rejected because the moderators deemed her inspiration to be too mainstream for the rules of the contest. Here, with a few pose tweaks, a kick-ass weapon, and a bit of shading, is my Four O'Clock character from Clockwork, the four-armed warrior princess named Tetra-Ka'Li. She is based on the Hindu goddess of destruction and rebirth (and a little bit on Four-Arms from the Ben 10  Universe). Name: Tetra Alias: Tetra Ka'Li Team Affiliations: Clockwork, Soul Survivors Race: Ka'Lian Birth

Cover Charge #3: Grimm Fairy Tales

As I work on my Elemental Witches series of characters through Heromachine, I have been reading Zenescope Entertainment's Grimm Fairy Tales  comic book series as a means of finding inspiration. Following the order of release found here , I have just finished reading Unleashed #0 - The Game , and I thought I would provide you with a review of the "Grimm Universe" thus far. Each seductive, pin-up-quality cover of Grimm Fairy Tales  hides a portion of the story of Sela Mathers, a literature professor in possession of a mysterious book of fairy tales which she uses to try to help select people she comes across, in a moral-of-the-month kind of format. Eventually, we find out Sela isn't the only person with a book of fairy tales. Belinda, a long-time rival of Sela's, is using her own book to recruit an army of special humans under the banner of her employer, a devil-like being called "The Dark One." Unbeknownst to Sela, Belinda has repeatedly manipulated her

Witches Are Made #13: How About A Little Fire?

Image
Yo, Heromachiners and Ticketholders! Yes, I have been reduced to 1990s slang greetings this morning, so feel free to stick out your tongue a growl a little when you ask me "wazzzzzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap" with that. Strap into your high-top fades, Hammer pants, and wallet chains, fire up some sample-era hip-hop or Lillith Fair indie chick-folk, and get ready for the latest character from my cranium. When I posted this latest character over at Heromachine five days ago, it was late at night and I didn't feel like writing another creative introduction, linking in a picture, or pasting and formatting a character profile on so little sleep. I love Once Upon A Time , the original Wizard Of Oz , and have recently begun reading Zenescope's Grimm Fairy Tales  comic books for character inspirations. Drawing upon the first two, I have continued the Elemental Witch character series I began with Tempora and Alice Gladwell to bring you a Wicked Witch-based Witch of Fire as follows

Heroines Are Made #12: The Prometheus Complex

Image
Every artist has designs that fail to make an impact. The following is one of mine. I created this character for a Transformations contest on Heromachine last year. The idea was to show a character in the midst of a transformation, either as a fusion, a before-and-after group shot, or an image showing all three (before, during, and after). I thought about what would happen if an angel sold her soul to a demon for a chance to experience the mortal world firsthand, and created Fallen Angel. Name: Angel of Foresight Alias: Fallen Angel, True Name Unpronounceable by Human Tongue Team Affiliations: Eyes of Heaven, Soul Survivors, Clockwork (reserve member) Race: Angel Birthplace: Heaven Powers/Abilities: Physical blindness, Can see into the future through human eyes, Access to low-level Angelic technology (Wings, Armor, Staff of Foresight). Bio: The being who would become Fallen Angel was born and engineered to be an Angel of Foresight. Foresighted Angels had no vision--at least, not in

Witches Are Made #11: A Wonder to Behold

Image
Make that Wonder Girl, who be holdin' a rabbit. I wish I had a little rabbit, George. I would love him and hug him and squeeze h--. Oh, crap, George! My little rabbit, George! He go pop, and now he don't move no more. So did the fat lady. Sorry. I got in the mood to quote Of Mice and Men  and Louie . But I have a new character for you finally. My Tempora character inspired me to start a series of elemental witches, and what would a time witch be without a space witch? And I don't mean the big, black empty where no one can hear you scream, although Wonder Girl can breathe in space. She's inspired by Alice In Wonderland , so you'll see what I was going for in a sec. Name: Wonder Girl Alias: Alice Gladwell Team Affiliations: The Coven of Leodd, The Enforcers, Clockwork Enemies: Tempora, The Society of Foes Race: Human Birthplace: London, England Powers/Abilities: Size-shifting, Super-strength, Increased skin density, Can breathe in oxygen-poor environments.

Stay Tuned #7: More F-Moments

I don't have a new character for you yet, but it's finale-fest here at Stay Tuned , a time to see once again how different TV shows Fucked up and Finished off their latest seasons. Grimm : this Once Upon A Time rival takes quotes from classic Brothers Grimm fairy tales, mixes them with Buffy -style creature morphing (referred to in the series as a  woge --pronounced "volga") and police procedural drama. Portland detective Nick Burkhardt suddenly discovers he is able to see people who can woge  after one of them kills his aunt, who had the same ability. The first season of Grimm  (also the family name of those who can see wessen --human/animal hybrids who can woge  from one form to the other) deals with Nick trying to cope with his status as a Grimm, solve wessen -related crimes, and improve the long-standing bad reputation of Grimms among non-violent members of the wessen  community. The finale involved a Sleeping Beauty -inspired plot, wherein Nick's girlfriend
