Anime Spotlight #14: To Your Eternity

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson a.k.a. the Anime Toastmaster Arrgh, me Animateys! 'Tis the national holiday t'be talkin' as a pirate as ye partake of butterscotch pudding! So like this post or I'll keelhaul the lot of ya! Not really, though. I just needed an intro that worked in a call to action and something to toast, so I looked up today's date on National Day Calendar , and here we are. So, here's to talking like a pirate, here's to butterscotch pudding, and here's To Your Eternity  (available to stream on CrunchyRoll ): To Your Eternity , much like Dr. Stone and Vivy , is a thought-provoking anime that follows its main character across boundaries of time that are beyond the understanding of mortal beings. Set in a primitive world (like Dr. Stone ) and visually stunning (like Vivy ), To Your Eternity  follows Fushi, a shapeshifting, immortal being that begins Its life as an orb, but through chance encounters with a boy and his dog (and later, several othe

Theoretical Tuesday: D23 Piece Offerings

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster So, I began writing this post last Thursday, and due to the ambitious length I had in mind and family responsibilities, I was unable to get it finished in time for Fan Theory Friday . I was going to wait another week so I could get it done properly...but then D23 happened, making my original speculative content obsolete. However, since I would rather smother a campfire with my face than delete hours of work, I decided to release what I have done already, but with a few Ticketmaster's Notes  interjected as to what I got right and wrong. This is not my first foray into fan theories, and I am rarely accurate on my own, but that won't stop me from trying. Here's the (almost, because if I included every MCU-related link, Friday would be over by the time I was done) complete list before we get started: -  Supernatural  Season 14:  Stay Tuned #10: Five Supernatural Season 14 Theories I Came Up With (Spoilers) - WandaVision :  Wan

Ticketverse Trades #12: Happy Accidents

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster In the past, I have done glossary posts, based in part on the comic book industry's "trade paperback" concept, called Ticketverse Trades . As seems appropriate to recent numerology, this is the twelfth such post. But we're doing something a little different this time (and possibly for the last time?). Instead of a quick introduction and a series of links, I decided that, since I have the entire original post of SW@ Ticket #45: Happy Accidents  kicking around my hard drive (and I think it's still on Yahoo! Groups somewhere, too), I would just paste that in here and get a bit more mileage out of that post  FROM November 22, 2005 , back when I was still a big WWE fanboy, skipping Computer Science classes at SDSU to play King of Fighters in their dungeonous arcade and fool around with the music-mixing software that was installed on the University library computers. As you may recall from the last three or so times I i

Ticket Stubs #43: Wrong Place, Right Time

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. The Ticketmaster The two-week trend of time-themed anime and throwback posts concludes here, as does this blog's coverage of the SW@ Ticket #45: Happy Accidents  trifecta of my reviews FROM November 22, 2005 , which addressed the strange things that happen when people and metal (and, in tonight's film selection, other large, blunt chunks of solid matter) crunch together unexpectedly. For the other two installments, check out the following links: Crash :   Ticket Stubs #1: Crash Back Into Me Run, Lola, Run :  Ticket Stubs #42: Run, Lola, Run  (duh) And if you'd like to watch 11:14  before the inevitable spoilers hit, you can currently do so through Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, VUDU, YouTube, and Google Play Movies. And now, to the cheap version of Crash , titled  11:14  and starring Patrick Swayze and Hilary Swank. Around 11:14 pm, teenage shenanigans, protective parenting, and generally poor decision-making lead to bizarre deaths as mult

Anime Spotlight #13: Time Travel That's Left

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Animeister I was going to cover To Your Eternity  this week, but I decided to continue the time travel theme after I remembered today's two anime: Plunderer  and Dr. Stone . If you haven't seen either one, they are both available for streaming on Crunchyroll . You can also click the following links to check out some times in the past that I have reviewed films and anime involving time travel. To avoid pulling focus (and because I didn't feel like copying another six links), Loki  is not included among them. Ticket Stubs #42: Run, Lola, Run

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster, a.k.a. the Time Travel Amateur This Monday, I did a post about two anime that treated time travel right. But there are two that I forgot to mention: Plunderer  and Dr. Stone . Oh, and on the other hand, there's the confusing multiverse theory cluster that Dragon Ball  tried to make work. At the end of Monday's Anime Spotlight , I hinted that I would be covering another very profound and beautiful anime (at least on Vivy 's level, if not higher) that explores mortality and uses time travel in the slower, more conventional, less obvious way that we are accustomed to (and has the potential to be a Dad Joke punchline); that being forward, second by second, by living through time as it passes. So the good news is, we can all time travel! Instead of that series, though, I thought it was good enough to put off another week so I could cover Plunderer  and Dr. Stone . I will also be doing a Dragon Ball  post at some point after Dra
