Just the Ticket #219: Terror Of Mechagodzilla

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. The Ticketmaster. This week in  Goj -Year- ra , the Shōwa Era comes to an end with a few firsts. Terror Of Mechagodzilla is the first Godzilla film to both have "Godzilla" in the title and not have "Godzilla" in the title. It's the first in the franchise to have nudity, the first with an explicitly stated non-sexual romance, the first to have a human mad scientist villain, and the first to be written by a woman. Getting back to the title, it's also the first occurrence of a definitive sequel where both Godzilla films have the villain in the title. Yes, I know Godzilla was still kind of a villain in Raids Again , and that King Ghidorah was the Astro-Monster , but I'm not counting those instances for technicality reasons. Released in 1975 based on a script by Yukiko Takayama , Terror Of Mechagodzilla ( Mechagodzilla's Counterattack in Japanese, mirroring the Japanese title of Raids Again ) was the final entry of...

GFT Retrospective #119: Grimm Universe #1 - Eye Of the Storm

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. The Retrospectre. Yeah, I'm trying out a new alias for my Retrospective byline today. Already don't know if I'm really feeling it, though, so suggestions are welcome. Maybe I should just let it grow on me? Also, another milestone get as I just passed the fifteen thousand view mark for May, so let's move the goalpost again and try for the Road To 20k! Thank you all again for the support this month. Whoever you Ticketholders are, you're my heroes. And speaking of heroes, it's been months since I did a Grimm Fairy Tales Retrospective instead of Zenescope - Omnibusted , so let's keep the train rolling with the Grimm Universe series! The first thing you'll probably notice is the labeling of this collection of One-Shots as Volume One, possibly hinting that there was supposed to be a Volume Two at some point that was canceled. Like Myths & Legends , though, the Grimm Universe branding would be revived at the beginnin...

Anime Spotlight #78: My Hero Academia (The Final Update)

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Quirky Animeister This may not be a milestone issue like the last big My Hero Academia  compilation  (my fiftieth Anime Spotlight ), but since it's still the month of my birth— Superhero Ani-May —and I've finally walked the Road to 10k Views with the hope of going Plus Ultra and beyond, I'm using this as a celebration moment (even though I planned to do what I'm doing here anyway) by covering everything MHA  in chronological order. When I posted the original review , Deku had just had a Death Battle against Asta from Black Clover ( series , movie ), and at the time of writing my 50th Anime Spotlight , Deku had returned to Death Battle for a clash with Miles Morales. So I started things off by giving my thoughts on them. The battle of the powerless protagonists sports better fight choreography despite relying mainly on low-res sprite animation. The "Asta wins because he can sneeze hard enough to make his body FTL in his sleep...
