Stay Tuned #51: Midnight Run For Your Life

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster, Representing the Lolipop Guild. In my review of Midnight Runaround and the last Ticket Stubs , I referred to today's movie review as " Midnight Run For Your Life : Helium Edition." That's because at the time of this writing, the Midnight Run Action Pack movies are only available to watch in poor quality on YouTube . Another Midnight Run  and Midnight Runaround  are in decent, but not upscaled, resolution, with a sort of tinny, murky sound quality that begs to be improved upon for some kind of  WalMart Quadrilogy Anniversary all-in-one collection or something. But for some reason, the final entry in the franchise, Midnight Run For Your Life , is on YouTube with the beginning and ending hacked off so that it lands at a little over an hour long, and has been pitched up to make everyone sound like helium-huffing forest creatures. I have no logical segue from munchkins and chipmunks to my usual call of action, so plea...

Stay Tuned #50: Midnight Runaround

Article by Sean Wilkinson, Come on, Eileen, Why you gotta give me the runaround? You said it's a sure-fire way to speed things up, But all it does is suh-low-ow me down. Oh, and I'm also known as the Ticketmaster. I haven't done a byline reference like this in awhile, so I thought I'd squeeze out two to make up for it: "Come On, Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners (because I'm doing Midnight Run May-hem this month) and "Runaround" by Blues Traveler (because, if you couldn't tell by the title of the post, I'm reviewing Midnight Runaround  this week). Please make  Just the Ticket  part of  your  midnight run by remembering to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, post your shortcuts to the airport in the comments section at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read to help with my loan repayment, and follow me from coast to coast on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and  LinkedIn  to like what you see ...

Stay Tuned #49: Another Midnight Run

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster Back when all TV aired live or pre-scheduled (and on television), there were things called blocks, kind of like breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus for your eyeballs. People of my generation most likely remember things like TGIF , Must-See TV , Saturday morning cartoons , the Disney Afternoon , Toonami , and Adult Swim , most of which were collections of family- or child-oriented programming that aired on major networks at mainstream viewing times. But cable networks had their blocks, too, with big-budget-for-TV, mid-afternoon or weekend programming aimed typically at a teenage or young adult male demographic, which is why you had stuff like Hercules and Xena , Black Scorpion , Mutant X , Beastmaster , Jack Of All Trades , and Mortal Kombat Conquest airing at these times. Some of these properties even did well enough at the time (or just needed a feature-length pilot episode to get them off the ground) to get movie adaptations. This i...

Just the Ticket #144: Midnight Run

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster The title of this week's movie up for review (and its three made-for-TV sequels, with a feature sequel/reboot in the works as of 2021), a "midnight run" refers to a quick stop at the local convenience store to pick up beer, cigarettes, or snacks to satisfy those fourthmeal cravings. It can also refer to when someone suddenly abandons their home or business in the middle of the night, or in the case of Marquette University , a charitable program by the campus ministry where they used to drive around at night delivering food and amenities to the unsheltered homeless. Please remember to make Just the Ticket  part of your midnight run by remembering to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, lazily write profanity into the comments section at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read to help me post bail, and follow me from coast to coast on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and ...
