Anime-BAW #5: Video Game Promos

Image
Hi, everybody. These are the facts, Anime-niacs: Sometimes, anime are just shallow, breast-filled, limited series cranked out by a small group of people locked in a basement somewhere because some Japanese guy who likes money more than he likes the company that makes it for him wanted them to make a six hour commercial for a generic, below-average video game directed at perverts and obsessive-compulsive recluses with giant vacancies in their souls. And sometimes, by which I mean a one-in-a-million rarity, promotional anime can actually have compelling stories and be worth watching. Here, as usual, are three examples that run the spectrum from Best  to Worst  and something in between. Best:  King Of Fighters: Destiny-- Does it try to force the Fatal Fury Motion Picture plot into the Rugal Saga? Yes. Does the King Of Fighters Tournament blatantly rip off the World Martial Arts Tournament from Dragon Ball Z ’s Buu Saga? Yes. Is the CG animation goofy as hell sometimes? Yes, but ende

Anime-BAW #4: Harem Genre (Part 3)

Image
Greetings, Anime-niacs! As I talked about in my last status update , the list is complete, the reviews are written, and the yatus is over, so it's time to put out yet a third issue on the harem genre. This time, supernatural fan-service harem series are the order of the day. Prepare to be turned on and underwhelmed.... Best: High School DxD (New/BorN/HERO)-- When proud high school pervert Issei is murdered by his fallen angel girlfriend, a demon girl named Rias resurrects him so he can get his revenge, but also help her out with Occult Research Club activities, like exorcising evil spirits and killing fallen angels, demons, angels, and pagan gods. Of course, Issei is usually more interested in Rias and engaging the club in…other activities. Things never get to pure hentai territory, but High School DxD is definitely not a family-friendly anime, as a ridiculous (but not entirely unwelcome) amount of the series is focused on breasts of such size as to make a chiropractor qui

TicketVerse Update: Hiatus Explained

Apologies for the lack of content these last few weeks. While working on an issue of Anime-BAW , my anime list was deleted, and I had to re-compile it. I also decided that while I was putting it together, I would just write offline reviews of all of the series on my list and figure out what went together genre-wise when I was done. That, combined with my continued work on  GFT Retrospective  material, home and work life, writing and then re-writing a novel that I've been obsessing over for five-plus years now, and putting all the pieces together to go back to college, I haven't been in a frame of mind to put together a string of diverse content like I have in the past (and keep in mind that I'm doing this all by myself...). Rest assured, though, that when things quiet down here, I will be returning with fresh issues of Anime-BAW , GFT Retrospective , New Piece Offerings , and TicketVerse Throwbacks . Until then, Stay Tuned  patiently and enjoy your independence. Sean
