Heroines Are Made #12: The Prometheus Complex

Image
Every artist has designs that fail to make an impact. The following is one of mine. I created this character for a Transformations contest on Heromachine last year. The idea was to show a character in the midst of a transformation, either as a fusion, a before-and-after group shot, or an image showing all three (before, during, and after). I thought about what would happen if an angel sold her soul to a demon for a chance to experience the mortal world firsthand, and created Fallen Angel. Name: Angel of Foresight Alias: Fallen Angel, True Name Unpronounceable by Human Tongue Team Affiliations: Eyes of Heaven, Soul Survivors, Clockwork (reserve member) Race: Angel Birthplace: Heaven Powers/Abilities: Physical blindness, Can see into the future through human eyes, Access to low-level Angelic technology (Wings, Armor, Staff of Foresight). Bio: The being who would become Fallen Angel was born and engineered to be an Angel of Foresight. Foresighted Angels had no vision--at least, not in

Witches Are Made #11: A Wonder to Behold

Make that Wonder Girl, who be holdin' a rabbit. I wish I had a little rabbit, George. I would love him and hug him and squeeze h--. Oh, crap, George! My little rabbit, George! He go pop, and now he don't move no more. So did the fat lady. Sorry. I got in the mood to quote Of Mice and Men  and Louie . But I have a new character for you finally. My Tempora character inspired me to start a series of elemental witches, and what would a time witch be without a space witch? And I don't mean the big, black empty where no one can hear you scream, although Wonder Girl can breathe in space. She's inspired by Alice In Wonderland , so you'll see what I was going for in a sec. Name: Wonder Girl Alias: Alice Gladwell Team Affiliations: The Coven of Leodd, The Enforcers, Clockwork Enemies: Tempora, The Society of Foes Race: Human Birthplace: London, England Powers/Abilities: Size-shifting, Super-strength, Increased skin density, Can breathe in oxygen-poor environments.

Stay Tuned #7: More F-Moments

I don't have a new character for you yet, but it's finale-fest here at Stay Tuned , a time to see once again how different TV shows Fucked up and Finished off their latest seasons. Grimm : this Once Upon A Time rival takes quotes from classic Brothers Grimm fairy tales, mixes them with Buffy -style creature morphing (referred to in the series as a  woge --pronounced "volga") and police procedural drama. Portland detective Nick Burkhardt suddenly discovers he is able to see people who can woge  after one of them kills his aunt, who had the same ability. The first season of Grimm  (also the family name of those who can see wessen --human/animal hybrids who can woge  from one form to the other) deals with Nick trying to cope with his status as a Grimm, solve wessen -related crimes, and improve the long-standing bad reputation of Grimms among non-violent members of the wessen  community. The finale involved a Sleeping Beauty -inspired plot, wherein Nick's girlfriend

Just the Ticket #96: Her & I, in Bad Country

Hello again, Ticketholders. I am currently in the middle of two characters, one a shaded re-design and the other a brand-new character (who is also my first neutral creation). Until then, I'll get back to movie reviews with a trio of Critical Quickies  from this week. Her --Joaquin Phoenix, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams: Theodore Twombly (Phoenix) falls for his new, artificially intelligent operating system, Samantha (Johansson). Though there is more to the cast, and blunt instruments of social commentary can be drawn from every nook and cranny of this overdrawn concept piece, there isn't much more to the story. Except Kristin Wiig ( Saturday Night Live ) asking Joaquin Phoenix to choke her with a dead cat during phone sex. And Scarlett Johansson cheating on him with over six hundred other guys. And me wasting two hours of my life. Okay, that's all there is to the story. D- I, Frankenstein --Aaron Eckhart ( A History Of Violence ), Bill Nighy ( Underworld ), Yvonne St

Villains Are Made #10: The Little Black Dress

Happy belated Mothers' (Mother's?) Day, Ticketholders! I was timely and thoughtful (but not extravagant) with my gift-giving this year. Just some chocolate and a gift card, accompanied by a serendipitously appropriate card that turned out to be the only one like it left in the store. And it's always nice for a mom to not have to cook or clean anything on a day meant to celebrate her. I'm back after another 'machine session (between more important expenditures of time, this character took four days to design from scratch) with another villain from the top of my vertebrae. She's the only female member of the Power Suits, a team of armor-clad antagonists based on various types of suits and clothing-related phrases. Name: Kurosutsu Sukoshi Team Affiliations: The Power Suits, The Yakuza Enemies: The Enforcers, Frank Hallows Race: Human Birthplace: Tokyo, Japan Powers/Abilities: Anti-Knavium battle armor (Enhanced strength and reflexes, red matter energy shields

Just the Ticket #95: Two-ly Amazing

Image
Good evening, Ticketholders and Spider-Fans! As promised, I am currently working on the Little Black Dress character for my team of Power Suits villains. But like I thought I would, I saw The Amazing Spider-Man 2  first, so I have a review ready for you. Let's kick it off with a look back at November 12, 2012 (Just the Ticket #64: Truly Amazing ) . Well, I didn't make it to the July 3rd opening of  The Amazing Spider-Man , since I had no job to provide me with money for a ticket at the time (a fact of reality that didn't seem to bother me whilst I was spending my birthday afternoon and evening at  The Avengers  two months previously). But I did catch the movie on its DVD/Blu-Ray release date this week, and I must say that once my inner comic book nerd overwhelmed my inner jaded movie critic (feel free to step inside the mind of Bruce Banner at this point and picture a battle of wills between the green and grey incarnations of the Hulk), my opinions as stated above sta

Heroines Are Made #9: A Clockwork L'Orange

So the Enforcers team is now complete, guys! Sadly, Heromachine has moved to a new server and they are experiencing S erious T echnical D ifficulties with their login system, so I was unable to post the new version of the following character on my New Universe thread at this time. Now I know what STD the Samsung Galaxy can catch from sharing playlists with other phones. Just remember that when you share playlists with another Galaxy user, your new Samsung Galaxy is sharing with every phone that other phone has shared with. So please remember to use a phone cover before bumping sensors. I created this next character when I was just beginning the Clockwork project and screwing around with Heromachine 3. To give you an idea of what kind of character she is without getting myself in too much trouble with the copyright folks at DC and Marvel, her look is somewhat like Zatanna, although I didn't do this intentionally. She's more inspired by Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orang

Ticket Stubs #39: Employee Of the Month

Happy 30th Birthday to me! Ever since the era of President Richard Milhouse Nixon, it seems like we "-gate" the hell out of everything. Weiners, strippers, water, backyards, communities, supernatural thrillers starring Johnny Depp, and now...apples? Yes, Ticketholders, I said apples. Oh, and hi, by the way. We're back to Christina Applegate's career as a sarcastically-quoted "film star," this time with a more positive review FROM  February 8, 2005  (SW@ Ticket #32: Angered Critic - The Bludgeoning of Ron Burgandy, Employee of the Month) , featuring the amazingly deceptive comedy Employee Of the Month . The movie stars Christina Applegate, Matt Dillon ( One Night At McCool's , Wild Things ), and Steve Zahn ( Joy Ride ). Dillon is a disfigured nice guy who works at the local big bank, under a tightwad manager and his asshole son, who is--guess what?-- Employee of the Month . Applegate is Dillon's recently acquired wife and Zahn is his crimina
