Anime Spotlight #28: Love Flops

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Animeister, Closing out the Month Of Love. I said last week that I was going to keep the Incredibles 2  review short because I didn't have much to say, and I ended up having more to say than I expected. Today, I'm going to try harder to keep that promise because the Anime up for review in the Spotlight  this week is absolute unicorn garbage in the best way possible, and that impression hinges on a twist that, like Jak-Jak's powers, is a grab-bag of insanity worth experiencing for yourselves. So before we begin, and for the last time with all of the Valentine's Day references, puns, and memes, please share the love by remembering to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, comment your true feelings at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read, and choo-choo-choose me on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and  LinkedIn  to like what you see and receive the latest heart-shaped boxes of news on my content. Time Drops #41: Week of February 25, 2024

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster Greetings, Ticketholders! My employer is cutting back on hours again this week because rich people like money and poor people...don't? Also, I'm late getting this out because I had to get up at four o'clock this morning to get the house ready to receive a new dryer and refrigerator at 7am, only for the driver to not show up until 8:30, drop our fridge in the street, lie to us about the parts we bought not being on the truck, pick the stupidest possible way to try to get the fridge through a doorway that it barely fit through, took our pantry door off without asking us, refused to reverse the refrigerator doors without wasting half an hour on the phone with his boss to get approval because "they could only be there for fifteen minutes," stole a gallon of milk that we left in our old refrigerator, told my mother to "let us do our jobs" when she told them to take the refrigerator doors off so it would fit

Just the Ticket #135: The Incredibles 2

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster, Hoping you, too, had an Incredible Valentine's Day! I was also hoping that I would have more to say about today's movie selection, but I don't, so please share the love by remembering to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, comment your true feelings at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read, and choo-choo-choose me on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and  LinkedIn  to like what you see and receive the latest heart-shaped boxes of news on my content. First, the positives about The Incredibles 2 . The original cast and crew return ( Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter as Mr. and Mrs. Parr/Incredible, Samuel L. Jackson as Frozone--with a bigger part this time-- John Ratzenberger as The Underminer, director Brad Bird voicing the first film's highlight and Super Suit designer Edna Mode, and Michael Giacchino providing that classic spy/superhero-influenced film score). We also get a Bre

Ticket Stubs #58: The Incredibles

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster, Hoping you had an Incredible Valentine's Day! So, I think this is the first time I've ever done this for a Ticket Stubs  post (I've done it for Welcome To the Dead Parade  before, when a new entry in a franchise comes out), but I started watching The Incredibles 2  for Friday's Just the Ticket , and I couldn't remember any details of the original that the sequel was referencing (specifically, at which point and for what reason the "Supers" were outlawed), so I re-watched it for the first time in a Stephen King number of years. Most of what you'll read below, I still agree with, but I will have some comparative analysis when we get back from 2005. But first, please share the love by remembering to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, comment your true feelings at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read, and choo-choo-choose me on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and

Anime Spotlight #27: SHY & Love After World Domination

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Animeister, Hoping you had a Super Valentine's Day! Finally , I get to content that makes overall sense because the theme this week is heroes! Everybody loves heroes, and everybody needs a hero, whether they are super-powered, peak-human, or merely inspirational. Whatever the case, it all comes down to what's in your heart and how strong those feelings are. Plus, because I'm reviewing two movies this week, I thought I'd review two anime as well. So don't be shy; use your power and share the love by remembering to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, comment your true feelings at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read, and choo-choo-choose me on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and  LinkedIn  to like what you see and receive the latest heart-shaped boxes of news on my content. It's Anime Spotlight in' Time! If the post title and theme of the week didn't give it away,  SHY  is a super

Time Drops #40: Week of February 18, 2024

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster Greetings, Ticketholders! My employer is cutting back on hours this week to compensate for the manpower used to do inventory last week. So this will be the perfect opportunity for me to complete my Marketing capstone presentation at WGU (finishing the script, recording, and editing it for submission), file taxes, and get a head start on March content. Also, I got my free coffee! So that we can all stay apprised of my head start, I will keep the year-in-content list at the end of these posts going forward, in addition to the usual, weekly announcement. So please read beyond the weekly content calendar for more information on the year to come, and share the love by remembering to comment your true feelings at the bottom of this post,  Become A Ticketholder  because I  know  you haven't already, help out my ad revenue as you read, and choo-choo-choose me on social media at the links below to like what you see and to receive the late

Just the Ticket #134: One Night At McCool's (List Lookback)

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster, Looking Back to where it all started. With Valentine's Day behind us, it seems like the perfect Friday for February's Just the Ticket List Lookback , and even though the holiday is over (originally a feasting day to honor the namesake Saint who ministered to--and allegedly performed wedding ceremonies for--persecuted Christians during the Roman Empire, but is now an excuse for card, chocolate, flower, and jewelry merchants to profit off the horniness of the YDAFOC crowd--that's "Young, Dumb, and Full Of ahem ," and it's a fitting coincidence that the acronym sounds like it does...), please continue to share the love by remembering to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, comment your true feelings at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read, and choo-choo-choose me on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and  LinkedIn  to like what you see and receive the latest heart-shaped boxes

Ticket Stubs #57: Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster, Hoping you had a Happy Valentine's Day! Back in the RWBY Tuesday series, I spoke a little about the Blue Collar Comedy Tour franchise and how certain jokes (with or without sarcastic finger quotations) have stuck in my head over the years. I slightly misremembered the phrasing (and totally forgot the context) of this particular joke , and like most Blue Collar material (with the exception of Ron White , who should be classified as a National Treasure), parts of it could now be considered to have aged poorly (sexist, chauvinist, insensitive to suicide, etc.), but because I needed a clever review title at the time and algorithmic demonetization wasn't a thing yet, I called the original review  FROM July 24, 2006, SW@ Ticket #50: Why Are You Putting Your Gun In Your Mouth?  Even the If the Lyric Fits at the end references making oral or visual contact with the barrel of a firearm...because it's Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang , get

GFT Retrospective #59: The Red Rose

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster, Wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day (on the day)! To be perfectly honest, for all my talk at the turn of the new year about planning and scheduling my content to the day and well in advance, I wasn't going to do this post until I realized that Valentine's Day fell on a New Comic Book Day (Wednesday) this year. But, as tends to happen with some of my impromptu content, things just lined up perfectly. And because roses are the flower of Valentine's Day (but also the flower we lay on caskets at funerals?), and today is Valentine's Day, and New Comic Book Day, and Zenescope did a Tales From Wonderland  about The Red Rose  that just happens to be the next issue up for review in the Grimm Fairy Tales  Retrospective  (after The White Knight  review I did last month), that's what I'm doing today! So please share The Love Below   by remembering to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, comment your tr

Anime Spotlight #26: The Saint's Magic Power Is Omnipotent

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Animeister, Wishing you a Magical St. Valentine's Day! There's no doubt in any anime fan's mind that the isekai  genre is oversaturated, making it harder and harder to find a good enough twist for a series to use as a point of differentiation as the seasons and years pass us by. Kind of like how much harder it is these days for a man to be romantically proactive without saying or doing something that could be construed as inappropriate. That's not to say I don't  see couples groping each other and trying to eat each other's faces when they're "kissing," or that sex by its very nature isn't  aggressive, or that I was trying to make any kind of point. But, yeah; it's hard out there for a man and  a mangaka . If you appreciated that Hustle & Flow  reference, please share the love by remembering to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, comment your true feelings at the bottom of this post,

Time Drops #39: Week of Valentine's Day, 2024

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster Greetings, Ticketholders! February's content isn't seeing as much viewership traffic as January (which hit over five thousand views in the first week; double this month's two-week numbers), and I haven't made any progress for my Marketing capstone presentation at WGU, so I still have to write the script, perform the recording, and edit it for submission. Fair weather has shifted at my paying job, with less and less visible progress being made in the freezer cleanout, and more dirty jobs like sweeping an entire parking lot in the rain, clearing rotted compost, and cleaning up after lazy drug addicts who push their rotted boxes of hoarding junk onto store property. So if that sounds like fun, they're taking applications. Also, I'm still waiting on that free coffee or two in my near future! Speaking of the future, I will keep the year-in-content list at the end of these posts going forward, in addition to the usu

Ticket Stubs #56: Fun With Dick & Jane

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster, Wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day! The month of love continues with the end (but it was originally the beginning) of the Fun With Guns  trilogy, and a review that is the only reason I have "fun with dick" on my blog search history. Here are the first two parts if you haven't shown them love yet: Ticket Stubs #54: National Treasure  & Lord Of War Ticket Stubs #55: Mr. & Mrs. Smith You can also share the love by remembering to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, comment your true feelings at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read, and choo-choo-choose me on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and  LinkedIn  to like what you see and receive the latest heart-shaped boxes of news on my content.
