Anime Spotlight #73: Gachiakuta

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. The Animeister. My initial plan for this review (back when I didn't know there was going to be a cour break and it was scheduled for the Monday after Christmas 2025 ) was to have the intro play into the gift aspect of the holiday and make some profound statement about how things and the spirit in which they are given should not be taken for granted or treated as disposable even though our modern economy is structured around physical waste and overpriced, non-fungible, non-ownable (and in the long term, non-sustainable) services that make us want more of what we ultimately find unfulfilling. Not every darling needs to be killed if it doesn't work out. Common courtesy shouldn't need to become a rarity before it is valued. We should respect those who provide by taking the time to see them and greet them, whether it be family or the overworked champ of a fry cook at your local grocer, instead of demanding their attention and service so we can f...

Just the Ticket #211: Son Of Godzilla

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. The Ticketmaster. Today's film in the Goj -Year- ra lineup left me with a lot of conflicting emotions. Seriously, I went in wanting to hate it because it was handled by the same team that made Ebirah, Horror Of the Deep such a mess (even though there was plenty to like about that one), and because I had seen enough memes to "know" how useless the title character is (and because I know how objectively bad a certain other, similarly-titled sequel to a beloved film with a green protagonist is). But then I watched it...and I was right about how bad it is, but also, I kind of loved it, and was left with feelings I didn't expect from a Godzilla movie. Back from The Deep are director Jun Fukuda , special effects director Sadamasa Arikawa , and an admittedly burned out Shinichi Sekizawa sharing script duty. This time, it was because the dream team were busy with King Kong Escapes , rather than because Toho had already committed the B-t...

Zenescope - Omnibusted #50: Robyn Hood Trilogy Omnibus

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. The Omnibuster. Origin ally, I chose to review the Robyn Hood Trilogy in February because she's an archer like Cupid or Eros (just with a more tragic love life and a more murdery disposition). But compiling my reviews from the Origin  Trilogy Omnibus in March also works because St. Patrick's Day and Robyn wears green. So let's look once more at the three-Volume Origin of perhaps  Zenescope 's best effort at the "gender-swap public domain folk character into legally distinct  Avengers / Justice League archetype" formula, brought to glorious life by my favorite GFT  writer of all time,  Pat "Bolder" Shand ! Robyn Hood , as a trilogy, exists digitally in three forms: the individual issues, the Trade Paperbacks, and the Trilogy Omnibus. Omnibuster's Note:  I thought at first (because I had seen the Origin  cover online without immediate context) that it was the intended cover for the Trilogy Omnibus, which seems to...
