Time Drops #59: Week of June 30, 2024

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster Welcome to the week to come, Ticketholders! My new goal for  Just the Ticket  was smashed more than a month early! Currently, we sit at over 204 thousand all-time views, with the Jurassic Joy Ride  having a real possibility of being slightly more popular than the Midnight Run May-hem . So keep being awesome, and if you stopped being awesome, start being awesome again because I like numerical validation for my efforts. If only views were money.... Speaking of, the financial pressures and job satisfaction issues are still there, and I will still be working on finding secondary or alternative employment going forward even though my hours look like they will be picking up again. I have a good, working resume drafted up for the jobs I'm looking for; I just need the financial means and energy to work, pay my expenses, write content for this blog,  and  start applying and tweaking my resume, which I am super-rusty at after working in t

Just the Ticket #148: Joy Ride (List Lookback)

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster It's fitting that last week, my TBT Anniversary push featured Timeline  with Paul Walker . I was almost so done with the Prehysteria! movies that I was going to take a week off and do a Paul Walker-themed week by reviewing Joy Ride instead. But last-minute pivots have rarely been kind to me, so here we are, avoiding wrong turns, detours, and dalliances from our "carefully planned" route. Please remember to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, comment your CB handle at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read so I can afford a truckload of ice to get through the summer, and follow me on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and  LinkedIn  to like what you see and receive the latest news on my content. And if you could also bring a bottle of pink champagne? It's my favorite! Joy Ride (the thriller from 2001 that spawned two direct-to-video sequels of decreasing budget and quality, not the

GFT Retrospective #68: Goddess

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster This will be a pretty short post, as there is no fairy tale to do comparative analysis, and the short story doesn't have anything to talk about in terms of Easter eggs, so please remember to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, comment something clever at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read so I can afford to pay people to come up with clever things for me to say, and follow me on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and  LinkedIn  to like what you see and receive the latest  Grimm  news on my content. GFT Short Story #9: Goddess The titular goddess in question here is Venus , known in Greek circles as Aphrodite . Which is interesting from a few angles because when Sela and Erik are attacked in her flashback from the beginning of The Grateful Beasts , the god responsible is referred to as Ares , rather than Mars . One could assume that this is yet another case of Zenescope not being able to keep t

NPO #32: Ten Favorite Final Girls (and Guys)

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster You may have noticed, if you're an avid reader of my posts (particularly Time Drops ), that today's content was a last-minute addition to the line-up for this week. But seeing as how I did one of these last year , and I didn't have to be a Patron or watch an entire franchise or genre to contribute to an episode of Dead Last , I would do this again. The deadline has passed for you Ticketholders out there to give your lists, but there is no  deadline for remembering to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, comment your favorite horror movie survivor at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read so I trade piece of mind for peace of mind, and follow me on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and  LinkedIn  to like what you see and receive the latest news on my content. For those who don't know, there is a trope in slasher movies (and occasionally, non-slasher horror movies and non-horror movies) c

Anime Spotlight #35: Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Animeister Are you alright? Can you hear me? As you might remember, this was supposed to be released last week, but workplace complications got in the way. Now, as promised, here it is: today's review is the convergence of "I can't believe I slept on this series" and "banger song I listen to every episode." It's not an upbeat banger like Call Of the Night 's opening and ending music or Oshi No Ko 's opener. It's not even a sexy jazz banger like Metallic Rouge 's opening song. But I'll talk about that a bit later. The action calls, so please remember to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, comment your demon-slaying exploits at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read so I can afford my quest for new spells, and follow me on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and  LinkedIn  to like what you see and receive the latest news on my content. I haven't found anything

Time Drops #58: Week of June 23, 2024

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster Welcome to the week to come, Ticketholders! Jurassic   Joy Ride   June  is maintaining steam in the viewership department, with a very real likelihood of hitting or surpassing my new goal for  Just the Ticket  a month early. That being to hit two hundred thousand all-time views before August (which is the month I celebrated hitting my first hundred thousand last year). Just the Ticket #147: Prehysteria! 3

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster. I almost didn't do this review, Ticketholders! Not because I was feeling lazy, low on energy, stressed out, and in such a mood to procrastinate that not even my favorite means of escapism was safe...except that was totally part of the reason. The rest of it came down to watching the first five minutes of Prehysteria! 3  and dreading the prospect of watching the rest of it and having to commit it to memory long enough to have feelings about it so I could write them down. But here we are, so please remember to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, post your favorite dinosaur (or anything else, really) in the comments section at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read to help pay for the mortgage on my outdated, broken-down miniature golf course, and follow me to the nearest museum exhibit on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and  LinkedIn  to like what you see and receive the latest miniature dinosaur

GFT Retrospective #67: Death's Key

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster This week has been full of "unexpected" "surprises" (with the quotations being sarcastic because no one wants to work in a small town's grocery store deli, so the young applicants are too lazy and inexperienced and the older applicants either can't acclimate to the unique food service environment--as compared to a restaurant or concert venue--or keep up with the pace, stress, disappointment, stupid questions, and insults of varying degrees of overtness, and they quit in a state of toxic absence, leaving me, who has also grown weary of these circumstances, to pick up the pieces until it drives me mad). It's almost like reading a fairy tale that ends on a cliffhanger that says you can find out what happens next after you finish reading it. To ensure that I can continue to do my best to spare you such contradictory conclusions, the key is that you please remember to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven'

Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster Welcome to the week to come, Ticketholders! Jurassic  Joy Ride   June  is picking up steam in the viewership department now that we've (hopefully) seen the worst that the wind has to offer, Google has fixed their Blogger bugs  as of Thursday night, and I'll be working slightly more often than before. The financial pressures and job satisfaction issues are still there, and I will still be working on finding secondary or alternative employment going forward even though my hours look like they will be picking up again. My new goal for Just the Ticket is still to hit two hundred thousand all-time views before August (which is the month I celebrated hitting my first hundred thousand last year). So keep being awesome, and if you stopped being awesome, start being awesome again because I like numerical validation for my efforts. If only views were money.... Anyway, as usual, I will keep up the year-in-content list at the end of the

Just the Ticket #146: Prehysteria! 2

Image
Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Kung-Fu Ticketmaster On A Rampage...Two! Jurassic Joy Ride   June  continues, Ticketholders! And as you will see after today's review of Prehysteria! 2  (as opposed to Prehysteria 2 , Prehysteria 2! , or Prehysteria, Too! ), any use of exclamation points herein can be considered an act of excessive generosity. And even though it might feel to you like an act of excessive generosity, perhaps you could contribute more than view statistics to Just the Ticket  by remembering to  Become A Ticketholder  if you haven't already, post your favorite dinosaur (or anything else, really) in the comments section at the bottom of this post, help out my ad revenue as you read to help pay for that huge crate of loose raisins I bought last week, and follow me to the nearest museum exhibit on  Tumblr ,  Reddit ,  Facebook , and  LinkedIn  to like what you see and receive the latest miniature dinosaur eggs of news on my content. Please? Ticketmaster's Note: In the in

GFT Retrospective #66: The Goblin Queen

Image
Article by Sean Wilkinson, a.k.a. the Ticketmaster Spoilers for a forty-one-year-old comic book character, but though they have the same name, this has nothing to do with Marvel's Goblin Queen, Madelyne Pryor , who is a clone of the then-presumed-dead Jean Grey , host of the Phoenix Force who sacrificed herself to keep the giant, creation elemental bird made of fire from eating every planet in the universe because human feelings gave it the appetite of a teenage boy and the emotional intelligence and volatility of a weak-minded teenage girl with a thing for Victorian bondage attire. At least, that's what I remember from the 90s X-Men cartoon because I never read the comics. Madelyne Pryor features heavily in the new continuation series, X-Men '97 , which I will probably binge later in the year (or next year, after the second season, provided I'm not still deep in One Piece  and other anime) with the original series. So, that should keep things current in terms of Algo
